Shirley Fikes-Funches started Kids Quarters in 2000 with a handful of students and a dream. Since then, the name has evolved into Kids House of Learning, licensed for nearly 100 kids, has eight classrooms, retained several staff members for two decades, and curated fundamental learning practices and curriculums.

Obtained an Early Head Start (EHS), Birth to 3 (B-3), and Jefferson Parish PreK4 (LA4) partnership, a Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) participant, a Childcare and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) participant, and voted the best daycare in Gretna for several consecutive years.

All of this was accomplished while remaining a pillar in the community, facilitating academic success, and establishing a well-rounded environment that had led students to grow up and become nurses, professional athletes, and productive members of society.
